John Ernest Boyd Jr.

Luverne, MN - John Ernest Boyd Jr. 72, passed away April 28, 2011 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Luverne, MN., John Ernest Boyd Jr., son of Ernie and Florence (Dugdale) Boyd, was born February 8, 1939 in Sioux City, IA. He grew up in Onawa, IA and attended Onawa High School. Later he attended Wayne State Teachers College in Wayne, NE and went on to serve in the US Air Force from 1962-1966., In 1966 John went to work for Harold's Photo in Sioux City, IA before transferring with them to the Sioux Falls location. John remained employed with Harold's for over 40 years until his retirement., John was known to many and well liked by all. He was a skilled photographer who could often be found in the darkroom developing and printing the innumerable photos he took of many things but most often of his family. He captured the essence of many moments for the rest of the world to enjoy and remember. It was effortless for him to click away at just the right moment leaving others to wonder what it was that he found so interesting. It seemed ordinary to people at the time, life just happening; so what was so special about that" When he emerged from the darkroom and presented his works of art that he tirelessly tweaked and modified for the perfect exposure and contrast, you then realized what it was he saw. It was a story captured in a single frame. His eyes always saw the story that could be told by preserving that single moment for all time. John looked at many moments in life as story...his unique lens always watchful for the opportunity to tell a story that would come alive in a homemade darkroom on Mayfair Drive. John also designed, built and flew RC model airplanes and was particularly fond of the "old timers" style airplanes. He was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed anything to do with aviation and flight. Above all, John was a family man who enjoyed his kids and grandchildren., John and Alene (Baker) Boyd were united in marriage on January 7, 1962 and remained married until 1991 when they divorced but remained good friends., John is survived by his ex-wife Alene of Phoenix, AZ, Sons; Brynn of Scottsdale, AZ, Eric, Sioux Falls, SD and Evan, Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren; Branden and Anna Boyd of Sioux Falls, SD and Sydney, Aiden and Nathan Boyd of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Judy Hanson of Kansas City, MO and Yvette Lindgren of Hollister, CA., John will be remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him., A Service of Remembrance will be held 10:00am Saturday, April 30, 2011 at Heritage Funeral Home with family present one hour prior to the service. www.heritagesfsd.com
