Sioux Falls - Jeanette Ellingsen, 91 of Sioux Falls, SD, died and has gone to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at Covington Heights Golden Living Center., Jeanette Louisa Huggins, daughter of RB and Mary (Ewing) Huggins, was born on April 19, 1920, in Calgary, Canada. At a young age the family moved to Seattle, WA, and Jeanette graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1939., Jeanette was united in marriage with Arthur Ellingsen on June 1, 1940, in Seattle, WA. The couple remained in Seattle and raised their family. Jeanette worked at various positions and helped raise the children. Later, she began a career as an accountant at Benson and McLaughlin in Seattle. She continued there until retiring in 1982. Arthur and Jeanette later moved to Sioux Falls, SD, in 1998, to be closer to family., Arthur passed away on December 14, 1999. Jeanette remained in Sioux Falls and remained active at First Lutheran Church as a quilter. She enjoyed volunteering at the Center For Active Generations, liked to play bridge, and was a computer coach to many., Jeanette was a private woman and was especially grateful for the care she received at the Inn on Westport and Covington Heights. She is missed already., Grateful for having shared her life are her son Dennis Ellingsen and his wife Sandra, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter Pamela Eldridge and her husband Ted, Spokane, WA; brother Charlie Huggins and his wife Thelma, Mt. MARTIN - Lynn Marlene Patton, 57, Martin, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at the Bennett County Hospital. She was born March 28, 1954, in Rapid City, to Robert and Marion Roe. She graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1972. She then attended Black Hills State College where she studied elementary education. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree in 1976. Upon graduation she began her life's work and passion at the Martin Grade School. For 33 years she dedicated her life to the education of the children in Martin. On June 10, 1989, she married Richard A. Patton, in Rapid City. The couple lived in Martin where Lynn pursued her career as an elementary and special education teacher. She enjoyed arts and crafts of all types, including, painting, ceramics, cross-stitch, scrapbooking and making jewelry. She especially enjoyed her many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. She loved attending their activities and events and went to as many as she could. Lynn is survived by her husband, Richard of Martin; two stepchildren, Stephen Kay Patton and Karen Williams, both of Rapid City; her mother, Marion Roe, Rapid City; two sisters, Susan Roduner and Pamela Juhala, both of Rapid City; five step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 22, at Bennett County Funeral Service. Norma Lou Allen was born July 21, 1947 to David and Frieda (Opp) Tessmann in Harvey, ND. She was raised by her parents with her three brothers, Eugene, Rueben, and Roger on their family farm north of Goodrich, ND. She graduated from Goodrich High School in 1965, and was elected her Senior class homecoming queen. After graduation, she moved to Bismarck, ND to attend beautician school and begin her career. In Bismarck, Norma met her future husband Jack Zumbaum. They were married on October 3, 1969 and immediately started their own family. They were blessed with the arrival of their two sons, Darrin and Bradlee. In 1976, they moved to Dickinson, ND, where they lived for the next 25 years. Norma's primary career focus in Dickinson involved work in the field of hotel management. In her time away from work, she enjoyed her sons' sporting activities and visiting with her friends, particularly her co-workers from the Comfort Inn, where she worked for 18 years. Jack unfortunately passed away in 2001. In 2002, Norma met Garry Allen and moved to Chamberlain, SD. Garry and Norma were married on February 1, 2003 and together, operated the Hillside Motel in Chamberlain. They enjoyed many days hunting, fishing, and traveling to the Black Hills, Jamaica, Hawaii and Mexico in the winter. Even though she had never smoked, Norma was diagnosed with advanced lung cancer the summer of 2009. Norma was very courageous in her fight against cancer, and was particularly inspired with the birth of her grandson Alex in June 2010. All of her family and friends admired her will and the positive attitude she maintained during this time. Norma passed away on May 18, 2011. Norma is survived by her husband Garry Allen, her sons Darrin (Lynne) and Brad (April), brothers Eugene and Roger, and stepson Mike Allen (Danita), and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Zumbaum, parents David and Frieda, brother Rueben, and sister-in-law Deborah Tessman., In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association. |
